Dear Rusty: How can a foreign company pay into the US Social Security system? I worked in Barbados before I immigrated to the USA and earned a pension there. Now my US Social Security benefits are reduced because I receive a pension from Barbados. One has nothing to do with the other and I want my money back! Signed: Angry Immigrant

Hi Rusty. On this WEP article, besides what you said, we found out that if one has 30 or more years of eligible social security here in the USA, the WEP does not apply to such an individual with a pension from another country. Unfortunately for us, we found out about it too late and will give up our small pension from Canada, as the lowering of our Social Security benefits and the having to probably pay taxes in Canada as well make it not worth it.
Thank you!
What has AMAC done to help support, and advance The Social Security Fairness Act (H.R. 82)?
Charles:
Thank you for your question. The AMAC Foundation, as a 501(c)(3) not profit, does not engage in legislative advocacy. Our related organization, AMAC Action, does review and advocate on legislative issues, so we will forward this question to their attention for response.
