Ladies! Did You Know:
– Women depend more heavily on Social Security than men.
– The average Social Security benefits for women are 25% lower than for the average men.
– For nearly half of unmarried women Social Security beneficiaries, Social Security represents 90% or more of their total income.
The AMAC Foundation Social Security Advisory Services has created a comprehensive seminar to help women understand their Social Security benefits.

I am not sure by your statement of the reason Social Security would have denied your survivor benefit. To qualify you must have been married at least 10 years, not even one day less. You must also be at least 60 years old, or 50 years old if you are disabled. You must be currently single unless you didn’t remarry until after your 60th birthday, or 50th birthday if disabled. Your deceased spouse’s benefit at the time of his death would also have to be less than the amount of your own Social Security benefits.
You state you just won your SSI benefits. SSI is Supplemental Security Income, and not Social Security benefits. Were you deemed disabled after his death? Has he been deceased for more than seven years?
