An Independent Medical Examination (IME) is an objective assessment of your medical conditions, including what treatment you need, whether you have a permanent impairment and to what degree your condition affects you socially and occupationally.

Military veterans who are attempting to become service connected or who are appealing a denial from the VAMC for a psychiatric condition or a traumatic brain injury (TBI) diagnosis may benefit from an IME or nexus letter from a psychiatrist. These reports can be used to document:

1) Direct Service Connection

2) Secondary Service Connection

3) Disability Rating Increase
