It’s more important now than ever for everyone to feel a sense of independence and control over our lives. Having the freedom and flexibility to manage your life can have a significant impact on your wellbeing. That’s true whether you’re just out of school or long retired.
Living independently means something different for everyone. People face different daily challenges, which need to be taken at their own speed. That doesn’t mean there aren’t also common hurdles which people are likely to face at some point when living alone.
The AMAC Foundation, in partnership with CompareTheMarket.com, a UK-based price comparison website, is making available to our readership important information about various aspects of independent living for seniors. In their material, titled “The essentials of safe, independent living for seniors,” they provide a rounded approach for any senior people looking to live on their own safely and comfortably. They cover accessibility options, types of independent housing, managing finances, and home safety improvements for peace of mind. Their material is presented in the following categories, which you can access via these links to the comparethemarket.com website:
> Support to help you live independently at home
> Accessibility in the home
> Types of independent living opportunities
> Finance management when living independently
> Home safety advice

As a relatively small non-profit with limited resources, we do not offer any form of housing services. For requests of this type, we refer folks to available government services that can provide assistance. For example, the USAGov website’s Housing Help page (https://www.usa.gov/housing-help-audiences). Likewise, the USDA.gov’s Housing for Individuals page might be of assistance. Depending on your state of residence, you might also seek out a contact with your state’s Area Agency on Aging (google Area Agency on Aging and identify your state in the search).
We wish you well in your efforts.
