I have been working in a non-social security earnings job for a school system for 20 years and counting, and I have 11 years of social security earnings. Can I retire from my school job, collect my pension, and take a social security earnings job without being contained by the SSa Earnings Test limit until I reach FRA? I do not plan on filing for SSA until I reach FRA. Will this benefit me by reducing the WEP when I file for SSA at age 67?
Hello Kara,
The Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) offset is the same for 20 or less years of making substantial earnings and paying into Social Security. I have attached information containing the substantial earning amounts to the email I am sending to you.
With 11 years of paying into Social Security, you would have to work at least another 10 years to start to see a decrease in the WEP offset. The offset decreases gradually each year until it stops at 30 years.
