As noted in previous posts, the AMAC Foundation is paying close attention to the concept of “aging at home” or “aging in place.” In view of our mission of supporting and educating America’s seniors, we are constantly on the lookout for informative articles and helpful hints for folks considering this for their future.

Through our relationship with AgingCare.com, a website dedicated to helping “families find answers, care, and information on eldercare,” we’re posting this week another relevant article on this subject. With their approval, we’re sharing an article titled “Is Aging in Place Always the Best Option for Seniors?” written by AgingCare.com contributor John Schappi.   

Mr. Schappi’s article covers a variety of thoughts on the concept, perhaps best summed up with this comment, “Aging in place seems ideal, but it can be dangerous, especially for vulnerable elder orphans who have few or no community ties.” He goes on to describe a common aging in place scenario and the issues that can arise, and discusses the importance of having a well-thought-out plan for taking this critical step.
