This segment covers more basics of Social Security, beginning with the importance of having a “my Social Security” account and how to set one up, and extending into a definition of the various types of benefits available (retirement, survivors, spousal, dependent children, etc.) The discussion focuses on how benefits are earned and how one becomes eligible, the process for filing for benefits, and the Social Security “Earnings Test.” The segment concludes with a review of the Foundation’s weekly “Ask Rusty” Q&A program, as well as trivia about Social Security.
