Notices from Social Security Telling You to Update How You Access Your My Social Security Account are Real!

It was brought to our attention that people are receiving email notices from Social Security telling them to update how they access their My Social Security accounts. If you created your account before September 18th, 2021, you are going to have to do this. This notice from the SSA is real!*

Currently, you can still use your current username and password, but you won’t be able to use it much longer. Soon you will need to create an account with one of Social Security’s two credential service providers. Use can use Login.gov or ID.me to be able to access your account.

Social Security’s online instructions will guide you through the process. If you already have one of these existing logins you do not have to do anything.

To learn more, read Social Security’s press release: https://www.ssa.gov/news/press/releases/2024/#7-2024-1

*Is this SSA notice real or a scam?

We recommend going directly to your My Social Security account on SSA.gov to create your new log-in. Unfortunately, scammers are always on the prowl to steal your personal identity, so you want to make sure you are on the correct website.
