For many veterans, there are immediate differences between their service in the military and their return to civilian life as a veteran. One that stands out in almost every study is their increased possibility of suicide.

The suicide rate among veterans is about 30 per 100,000 population per year, according to a 2013 study released by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs. The general civilian rate of suicide in the study was 14 per 100,000 people.

The same agency in 2019 released a report showing that veterans make up 13.5% of all suicide deaths in the United States but only make up 7.9% of the U.S. adult population. Continue reading here…
