U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) is leading a bipartisan, bicameral effort to strengthen the Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) Solid Start program, which aims to contact every veteran multiple times by phone in the first year after they leave active duty to check in and help connect them to VA programs and benefits. Senator Hassan, along with Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) and Representatives Elissa Slotkin (D-MI), Jack Bergman (R-MI), and David Joyce (R-OH), are requesting a non-partisan Government Accountability Office assessment of the Solid Start program and how it could be strengthened.
