Operation Veteran Success started as a GoFundMe site helping veterans in the Wenatchee, Washington area.
Veteran Joe Gerak was moved by the need he saw around him.
He sought to raise funds to be used by veterans in emergencies where he saw time and red tape often making things worse. While there are countless numbers of veteran organizations nationwide, there are often too many limitations or restrictions within these organizations which prevent eligible veterans from getting the aid they deserve in time for it to make a difference. For example, most agencies that help veterans financially pay directly to lenders. Many lenders, especially those which finance automotive purchases, are neither required nor inclined do the work to fill out and submit the forms required by federal, state, and local assistance agencies to enable veteran financing. thus making it impossible for many veterans who have advocated and been granted assistance to rectify their financial hardships. Aggravating the situation, many organizations will only begin to help veterans when circumstances appear to be at the breaking point.
Joe wanted to be able to jump in and provide assistance in the near term, so small issues did not create bigger ones.
In 2023, Joe’s parents Mary and Jay Gerak joined Joe in the effor to see if they could take this effort to the next level. They founded Operation Veteran Success with a board of directors representing each branch of the military. Operation Veteran Success is a 501c3 charitable organization, also registered as an Illinois Not-for-Profit Organization.
