While many of the benefits available to U.S. military veterans are well known, service members may not realize that they are eligible to roll all or part of a military death benefit payout directly into a Roth IRA. This is one of the many features of the Heroes Earnings Assistance and Relief Tax (HEART) Act of 2008 containing powerful retirement planning provisions for former military service personnel.
