For Kira, a U.S. Navy veteran and military spouse, it’s a toothbrush.

“Every day I feel like I’m missing something. I’ll be brushing my teeth and Nix isn’t there, nudging me to the side so that he can rinse, too,” she says.

May is Military Appreciation Month, which encompasses Military Spouse Appreciation Day on May 10.
