Social Security Advisory Services Hits Another Milestone The AMAC Foundation officially opened its doors to the community in mid-2014, with a simple mission "To help protect and ensure the financial security, health, and social lives of current and future mature Americans, and to help Americans navigate the bewildering array of decisions they need to make." This mission embodied the vision of our late Founder and first President, Dan Weber -- a vision unquestionably presaged in an article posted on the AMAC.us website the preceding year. That article contained a sentence we've come to recognize as the stimulus that would drive the Foundation forward: "A new study shows that Americans nearing retirement age are ill-informed about their Social Security options, according to Dan Weber, president of the Association of Mature American Citizens." He firmly believed that, and he was right. He imparted this belief to those of us fortunate enough to be part of the Foundation's early staff, and propelled us toward the creation of a service to address this critical need. After a controlled start-up in 2016, the Advisory Service took off and quickly gained traction nationwide. As our exposure grew and the pace of inquiries quickened, we passed the 10,000-mark in counseling sessions by March of 2020 -- 51 months from start-up to reach that level! But we were only getting started, doubling that mark in just the next 20 months, serving the 20,000th inquiry on November 30, 2021. And with our current trajectory, we anticipate reaching the 30,000-level in early 2023. To manage the program's growth, we've selectively added Advisors to the point that we now have a staff of six fully accredited and committed professionals, with a seventh currently in initial training. January Seminars and Webinars We're off to a running start in 2022, with a full calendar of education programs slated for the month of January. First off will be the 28th offering of our acclaimed "Sudden Death: Are You Prepared?" notebook series program, followed by two Veteran-oriented programs running later in the month. Here are the details: Wednesday, January 12, 2022 (10:00 am - Noon) - Sudden Death: Are You Prepared? A 3-part series - January 12, January 19, January 26 held at Lady Lake Library, 225 West Guava Street, Lady Lake This seminar will guide you through the creation of your "Survivor Notebook," the repository that will help your loved ones cope after your passing. Friday, January 14, 2022 (2:00 pm - 4:00 pm) - A Real-Life Perspective on PTSD and its Relationship to Veteran Suicide (WEBINAR) This event is presented by One More Day Inc., a Veteran-Operated nonprofit VSO/MSO dedicated to ending the loss of our nation's cherished Veterans at the hands of suicide. The AMAC Foundation is partnering with One More Day as part of the AMAC Veterans 2021 Project. In addition to sharing the experience of a decorated Delta Force Command Sergeant Major, this webinar will discuss the neuro-psychology of why we suffer from PTSD, some current awesome treatments, and what is on the horizon for PTSD treatment. Experts will be on-hand to respond to questions about this often-debilitating condition. Tuesday, January 25, 2022 (10:00 am - 11:30 am) - The Heart of the Veteran A riveting discussion focused on understanding the impact of military culture and experiences, the issues encountered by caregivers serving combat veterans, and the services available for veterans and their families. The seminar's goal is to honor the veterans' preferences for end-of-life care and to provide them with the respect, recognition, comfort, and compassion they deserve through dignified treatment and quality care. Last month we reported on the addition of a seventh person to our staff of Social Security advisors, welcoming Judy Korn to our dedicated group. Judy has completed her initial training through the National Social Security Association and, on December 22, sat for her accreditation exam. We're extremely pleased to report success on this score...Judy is now an accredited member of our Advisory Staff! For the next several weeks, Judy will continue her training efforts in the custom training program we've assembled to ensure that our Advisors are fully trained and ready to deal with the variety and complexity of questions we routinely encounter. As noted earlier in this newsletter, our volume of requests for counseling is continuing to grow at a steady pace, and we're looking forward to having Judy in the rotation! Although we introduced Judy last month, here she is again: Judy Korn - Social Security Advisor Judy is a career professional with an extensive background in the non-profit sector and in private industry, with multiple certifications in counseling-related areas associated with public service. As a former business owner and controller for a substantial business enterprise, and her considerable experience in ministering to the needs of individuals and families in crisis, she brings with her analytical, problem-solving, and active listening skills so critical to our Social Security Advisory Service. She is Founder and President of LIFESTEPS Support, Inc. in Leesburg, Florida, where she manages a staff of volunteers dedicated to helping women recover from life-related problems. In addition to being state-licensed as a Certified Recovery Peer Specialist, Judy holds several certifications in public-service areas and is a Florida state licensed Notary Public. She holds an Associate Degree from Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY.
