SUMMARY:Understanding "The Connected Home"
DESCRIPTION:It’s been a long time coming\, but it has arrived. We’re talking about “The Connected Home” or the “Smart Home” and the fascinating concept of devices in the home communicating with each other and with outside sources. It’s not really a new concept\, since it’s been involving for quite a few years now\, but the seemingly constant announcements of new products designed to make life easier and simpler is leading to explosive growth in the number of “connected homes” in the U.S. In fact\, a recent USAToday article reports that by 2019\, over 15 million U.S. homes will be operating with “smart home systems.” \nSo\, what’s a connected home? Generally\, it’s a home with an internet connection to the outside world and a networking setup within its walls. This in-home network supports devices that communicate\, from energy management tools (like electronic thermostats that can be controlled from a smart phone\, intelligent lighting that can turn off and on depending on the amount of ambient light\, heating/air conditioning systems linked to the power company’s grid to take advantage of time-of-day rates\, etc.)\, to media and entertainment products that can tailor programs to your individual interests and select and record programs for you based on your preferences\, to healthcare tools (like devices that can communicate with your physician\, track and reorder medications\, record the results of fitness programs\, etc.). A large part of today’s marketplace also addresses home security\, with electronic locks\, recording of movement within the home\, and capabilities to remotely activate external property lighting. \nImagine a world that can accomplish routine–but critical–tasks for you\, automatically and without intervention from you. An electronic pill dispenser\, for example\, that can remind you of the need to take a certain medication at a certain time\, or a unit in your car that can allow you to confirm that you closed your garage door (or maybe even close it for you as you leave the driveway!) And how about the recently announced “Amazon Key” an electronic door lock that can be accessed by the delivery person so the valuable package can be put inside the house rather than leave it sitting on the porch. The variations are amazing\, and it’s increasingly becoming known as the “Internet of Things or the IoT\,” a global marketplace growing at a compound rate of well over 10% each year and fast approaching the three quarters of a trillion dollars level. \nLearn more about what this extraordinary subject at a seminar hosted by the AMAC Foundation and featuring a panel of experts from the retail industry. Our speakers will explore\, in an hour and a half overview seminar\, what the “smart home” or “connected home” actually is and how you can take advantage of the capabilities it offers. Come prepared with your questions\, and we’ll see that you get the answers you need. \nHere are the details for this session: \nDate:     Wednesday\, January 17\, 2018 \nTime:     10:00 am to Noon \nPlace:    Lady Lake Library\, 225 West Guava Street\, Lady Lake\, FL 32159 \nThere is no cost for this workshop\, and light refreshments will be served. \nTo register: Contact the AMAC Foundation\, 888-750-2622 or email: info@amacfoundation.com. \nDeadline for reservation is Friday\, January 12\, 2018. \nTo register for this seminar\, contact the AMAC Foundation office (telephone 888-750-2622 or email Info@AmacFoundation.org). \nSpecial Note:  This seminar will be streamed live via the Foundation’s website. SUMMARY:Sudden Death – Are You Prepared?
DESCRIPTION:Sudden Death: Are You Prepared?\nAttention: This event is comprised of three two-hour sessions. (NOTE DATE CHANGE) \nHere are the dates of all three sessions: Mondays – January 22\, January 29\, February 5\, 2018– 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm \nIf you passed away tomorrow\, will your loved ones know what to do? Will they know where your financial information and tax records\, insurance records\, and investment documents are stored? Will they be able to locate your most current will\, health care directives\, and documented funeral wishes? Can they locate important household documents\, like deeds\, car titles\, and pension statements? \nThe list goes on and on\, but the important point is that having this type of pertinent information organized and available in a structured place is something you can do in advance for those you leave behind. It’s a big task and it’s not an easy one…we know that. But with a structured approach you can create a living document that will prove invaluable to your loved ones. \nThis seminar has been structured to guide you through the process of creating your “Survivor Notebook\,” the repository that will help your loved ones cope after your passing. Conducted in three separate two-hour sessions\, we’ll walk you through identifying what needs to be considered\, assembling the material as we go in an accessible format\, and we’ll be developing an approach to maintaining the material so that it’s always current. You’ll leave with a physical roadmap that will be of immeasurable value to your family. \nThere is no cost for this workshop series\, and light refreshments will be served at each session. Notebook materials will be provided \nTo register: \nContact the AMAC Foundation\, 888-750-2622 or email: info@amacfoundation.org

SUMMARY:Life After Cable…Entertainment Alternatives! (REPEAT SESSION)
DESCRIPTION:REPEAT SESSION! \nThe demand for our first offering of this workshop has been overwhelming! Our available seating was filled almost immediately\, so we scheduled a follow-up edition for October 17\, 2017. This session is also filled\, so we’ve added a third session for January\, 2018. In case you missed it the first time around\, here’s the description for this seminar: \nCord-cutting–the act of severing the traditional link to cable television–has grown substantially in recent years as two factors collide: the availability of a host of new options on the home entertainment market\, and growing dissatisfaction with cable companies’  price/reliability/service model. On this first factor\, the past few years have brought services like Netflix\, Amazon Prime Video\, Sling TV\, Huku\, Roku\, and others into the mainstream vocabulary\, while on the second factor\, many households have begun to take exception to what is perceived as a continual ramp up of pricing from the cable companies and somewhat of a deterioration in reliability and service levels. \nFor many households\, price has been the driver to consider dropping their cable service in favor of a newer\, cheaper option. Yes\, the cable companies gleefully advertise that their contract gives you hundreds and hundreds of channels\, and it breaks down to perhaps pennies for each of them. But realistically\, how many different channels do you really want? Most people typical have only a handful of favorites\, maybe a half dozen or so\, while the “hundreds and hundreds” available on cable are rarely–if ever–accessed. Here’s where the pay-as-you-go options of the rapidly emerging streaming market emerge as attractive alternatives. \nOK\, but how do I get there? What do I need to have to get there? And when I get there\, what have I given up? These and many other relevant questions will be answered in this informative two-hour session presented by the Foundation. Experts from Best Buy’s “Geek Squad” training staff will explain the marketplace\, covering the equipment and contract details you’ll need to consider in order to take the leap. \nAlso\, based on some of the questions that came up during previous sessions\, we’ve added the topics of “TV antennas” and “shopping for a TV…what you need to focus on.”  \nHere are the details for this repeat session: \nDate:     Wednesday\, January 24\, 2018 \nTime:     10:00 am to Noon \nPlace:    Lady Lake Library\, 225 West Guava Street\, Lady Lake\, FL 32159 \nThere is no cost for this workshop\, and light refreshments will be served. \nTo register: Contact the AMAC Foundation\, 888-750-2622 or email: info@amacfoundation.com. \nDeadline for reservation is Friday\, January 19\, 2018. \nSpecial Note:  This seminar will be streamed live via the Foundation’s website. To access the session\, go to www.AmacFoundation.org/live at the session’s designated start time.
