SUMMARY:Sudden Death – Are You Prepared?
DESCRIPTION:ALERT: This session has been subscribed to capacity! Additional sessions are being planned for later in the year. Stay tuned to this page for updates. Thank you!\nSudden Death: Are You Prepared?\nAttention: This event is comprised of three two-hour sessions.  \nHere are the dates of all three sessions: Mondays – June 18\, June 25\, July 2\, 2018– 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm \nNote Location: Sumter County Library (Pinellas Place)\, 7375 Powell Road\, Wildwood\, FL 34785 \nIf you passed away tomorrow\, will your loved ones know what to do? Will they know where your financial information and tax records\, insurance records\, and investment documents are stored? Will they be able to locate your most current will\, health care directives\, and documented funeral wishes? Can they locate important household documents\, like deeds\, car titles\, and pension statements? \nThe list goes on and on\, but the important point is that having this type of pertinent information organized and available in a structured place is something you can do in advance for those you leave behind. It’s a big task and it’s not an easy one…we know that. But with a structured approach you can create a living document that will prove invaluable to your loved ones. \nThis seminar has been structured to guide you through the process of creating your “Survivor Notebook\,” the repository that will help your loved ones cope after your passing. Conducted in three separate two-hour sessions\, we’ll walk you through identifying what needs to be considered\, assembling the material as we go in an accessible format\, and we’ll be developing an approach to maintaining the material so that it’s always current. You’ll leave with a physical roadmap that will be of immeasurable value to your family. \nThere is no cost for this workshop series\, and light refreshments will be served at each session. Notebook materials will be provided \nTo register: \nContact the AMAC Foundation\, 888-750-2622 or email: info@amacfoundation.org

SUMMARY:Understanding the "Connected Home" - REPEAT SESSION
DESCRIPTION:REPEAT SESSION!\nIt’s been a long time coming\, but it has arrived. We’re talking about “The Connected Home” or the “Smart Home” and the fascinating concept of devices in the home communicating with each other and with outside sources. It’s not really a new concept\, since it’s been involving for quite a few years now\, but the seemingly constant announcements of new products designed to make life easier and simpler is leading to explosive growth in the number of “connected homes” in the U.S. In fact\, a recent USAToday article reports that by 2019\, over 15 million U.S. homes will be operating with “smart home systems.” \nSo\, what’s a connected home? Generally\, it’s a home with an internet connection to the outside world and a networking setup within its walls. This in-home network supports devices that communicate\, from energy management tools (like electronic thermostats that can be controlled from a smart phone\, intelligent lighting that can turn off and on depending on the amount of ambient light\, heating/air conditioning systems linked to the power company’s grid to take advantage of time-of-day rates\, etc.)\, to media and entertainment products that can tailor programs to your individual interests and select and record programs for you based on your preferences\, to healthcare tools (like devices that can communicate with your physician\, track and reorder medications\, record the results of fitness programs\, etc.). A large part of today’s marketplace also addresses home security\, with electronic locks\, recording of movement within the home\, and capabilities to remotely activate external property lighting. \nImagine a world that can accomplish routine–but critical–tasks for you\, automatically and without intervention from you. An electronic pill dispenser\, for example\, that can remind you of the need to take a certain medication at a certain time\, or a unit in your car that can allow you to confirm that you closed your garage door (or maybe even close it for you as you leave the driveway!) And how about the recently announced “Amazon Key” an electronic door lock that can be accessed by the delivery person so the valuable package can be put inside the house rather than leave it sitting on the porch. The variations are amazing\, and it’s increasingly becoming known as the “Internet of Things or the IoT\,” a global marketplace growing at a compound rate of well over 10% each year and fast approaching the three quarters of a trillion dollars level. \nLearn more about what this extraordinary subject at a seminar hosted by the AMAC Foundation and featuring a panel of experts from the retail industry. Our speakers will explore\, in an hour and a half overview seminar\, what the “smart home” or “connected home” actually is and how you can take advantage of the capabilities it offers. Come prepared with your questions\, and we’ll see that you get the answers you need. \nHere are the details for this session: \nDate:     Tuesday\, June 13\, 2018 \nTime:     10:00 am to Noon \nPlace:    Lady Lake Library\, 225 West Guava Street\, Lady Lake\, FL 32159 \nThere is no cost for this workshop\, and light refreshments will be served. \nTo register: Contact the AMAC Foundation\, 888-750-2622 or email: info@amacfoundation.com. \nDeadline for reservation is Friday\, June 8\, 2018 \nTo register for this seminar\, contact the AMAC Foundation office (telephone 888-750-2622 or email Info@AmacFoundation.org). \nSpecial Note:  This seminar will be streamed live via the Foundation’s website. SUMMARY:Caring for the Caregiver
DESCRIPTION:Most of us understand the term “caregiver” and all that it implies\, and many of us are well aware of the role that those who care for loved ones assume in their everyday life. And it’s not an isolated situation\, since according to the Caregiver Action Network more than 65 million people (29% of the U.S. population) provide care for a chronically ill\, disabled\, or aged family member each year. The role of caregiver can be\, in equal parts\, both a rewarding situation and a source of personal stress\, with fatigue\, depression\, and an oftentimes overwhelming sense of futility creeping into the picture.\n\nSo\, for those who are caregivers\, or who believe they will find themselves in this capacity at some point down the road\, it becomes absolutely essential to understand that the role can only be effectively managed if the caregiver first takes care of themselves. Sounds obvious\, but dedicated caregivers can get caught up in the role they’ve taken on and lose sight of this basic need for attention to themselves.\n\nOur seminar\, organized in conjunction with VITAS Healthcare\, will provide a framework for understanding the importance of  caregiver self-management. From understanding the role of the caregiver to exploration of a number of related topics (like fall prevention\, home safety\, fraud/scam awareness)\, this two-hour seminar will address many often overlooked areas and will help caregivers understand the importance of addressing their own needs.\n\n

SUMMARY:Life After Cable…Entertainment Alternatives! (REPEAT SESSION)
DESCRIPTION:REPEAT SESSION!\nThe demand for our first offering of this workshop has been overwhelming! As shown in the photo at above\, we had a packed house for our third offering of this acclaimed workshop. As has been the case in our three editions of this workshop\, our available seating was filled almost immediately\,and this  has prompted us to schedule a fourth edition for Wednesday\, April 4\, 2018. \nIn case you missed it the first time around\, here’s the description for this seminar: \nCord-cutting–the act of severing the traditional link to cable television–has grown substantially in recent years as two factors collide: the availability of a host of new options on the home entertainment market\, and growing dissatisfaction with cable companies’  price/reliability/service model. On this first factor\, the past few years have brought services like Netflix\, Amazon Prime Video\, Sling TV\, Huku\, Roku\, and others into the mainstream vocabulary\, while on the second factor\, many households have begun to take exception to what is perceived as a continual ramp up of pricing from the cable companies and somewhat of a deterioration in reliability and service levels. \nFor many households\, price has been the driver to consider dropping their cable service in favor of a newer\, cheaper option. Yes\, the cable companies gleefully advertise that their contract gives you hundreds and hundreds of channels\, and it breaks down to perhaps pennies for each of them. But realistically\, how many different channels do you really want? Most people typical have only a handful of favorites\, maybe a half dozen or so\, while the “hundreds and hundreds” available on cable are rarely–if ever–accessed. Here’s where the pay-as-you-go options of the rapidly emerging streaming market emerge as attractive alternatives. \nOK\, but how do I get there? What do I need to have to get there? And when I get there\, what have I given up? These and many other relevant questions will be answered in this informative two-hour session presented by the Foundation. Experts from Best Buy’s “Geek Squad” training staff will explain the marketplace\, covering the equipment and contract details you’ll need to consider in order to take the leap. \nAlso\, based on some of the questions that came up during previous sessions\, we’ve added the topics of “TV antennas” and “shopping for a TV…what you need to focus on.”  \nHere are the details for this repeat session: \nDate:     Wednesday\, April 4\, 2018 \nTime:     10:00 am to Noon \nPlace:    Lady Lake Library\, 225 West Guava Street\, Lady Lake\, FL 32159 \nThere is no cost for this workshop\, and light refreshments will be served.

SUMMARY:The New Year’s Resolution You Will Want to keep for 2018
DESCRIPTION:Most of us want to do better in the New Year\, and yet it’s hard to stick to the plan—those pesky New Year’s resolutions always seem to fade out earlier than we’d like. There are some resolutions\, though\, that have long-term implications and that should be kept in focus as the days go roaring by. \nThis program\, conducted by a panel of caring professionals\, is designed to help you keep the promises you made to yourself and your family to take control of your destiny in your active senior years. SUMMARY:Life After Cable…Entertainment Alternatives! (REPEAT SESSION)
DESCRIPTION:REPEAT SESSION! \nThe demand for our first offering of this workshop has been overwhelming! Our available seating was filled almost immediately\, so we scheduled a follow-up edition for October 17\, 2017. This session is also filled\, so we’ve added a third session for January\, 2018. In case you missed it the first time around\, here’s the description for this seminar: \nCord-cutting–the act of severing the traditional link to cable television–has grown substantially in recent years as two factors collide: the availability of a host of new options on the home entertainment market\, and growing dissatisfaction with cable companies’  price/reliability/service model. \nAlso\, based on some of the questions that came up during previous sessions\, we’ve added the topics of “TV antennas” and “shopping for a TV…what you need to focus on.”  \nHere are the details for this repeat session: \nDate:     Wednesday\, January 24\, 2018 \nTime:     10:00 am to Noon \nPlace:    Lady Lake Library\, 225 West Guava Street\, Lady Lake\, FL 32159 \nThere is no cost for this workshop\, and light refreshments will be served. \nTo register: Contact the AMAC Foundation\, 888-750-2622 or email: info@amacfoundation.com. \nDeadline for reservation is Friday\, January 19\, 2018. \nSpecial Note:  This seminar will be streamed live via the Foundation’s website. SUMMARY:Sudden Death – Are You Prepared?
DESCRIPTION:Sudden Death: Are You Prepared?\nAttention: This event is comprised of three two-hour sessions. (NOTE DATE CHANGE) \nHere are the dates of all three sessions: Mondays – January 22\, January 29\, February 5\, 2018– 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm \nIf you passed away tomorrow\, will your loved ones know what to do? SUMMARY:Understanding "The Connected Home"
DESCRIPTION:It’s been a long time coming\, but it has arrived. \nHere are the details for this session: \nDate:     Wednesday\, January 17\, 2018 \nTime:     10:00 am to Noon \nPlace:    Lady Lake Library\, 225 West Guava Street\, Lady Lake\, FL 32159 \nThere is no cost for this workshop\, and light refreshments will be served. \nTo register: Contact the AMAC Foundation\, 888-750-2622 or email: info@amacfoundation.com. \nDeadline for reservation is Friday\, January 12\, 2018. \nTo register for this seminar\, contact the AMAC Foundation office (telephone 888-750-2622 or email Info@AmacFoundation.org). \nSpecial Note:  This seminar will be streamed live via the Foundation’s website. SUMMARY:Understanding Veterans Aid & Attendance Benefits (REPEAT SESSION)
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will explore a little-known benefit available to U.S. Armed Forces veterans who were on active duty during a period of war. It’s titled “Pension With Aid and Attendance”\, and it could be a life-changer for many men and women who require home care or care in a health care facility and require the assistance of another person (for bathing\, dressing\, medication monitoring and other activities of daily living). \nThe Pension With Aid and Attendance benefit is available to veterans and their spouse\, and also to surviving spouses and to spouses of a healthy veteran in need of care. Veterans having the wartime service credits only need to demonstrate that caregiver assistance\, or a living facility more suitable to their physical limitations is required\, and that they have a financial need. \nKim Lanning\, representing Caring Avenues\, will provide education on this important benefit and will help attendees understand how to take advantage of the benefit to improve their lives. \nThe session will begin at 10:00 am and is scheduled to conclude by 11:30 am\, although Ms. Lanning and Foundation staff representatives will be on-hand afterward to respond to questions and provide any further assistance anyone might need. \nDeadline for registration is Friday\, November 10\, 2017. Light refreshments will be provided before and during the session. \nThis is a repeat session\, originally conducted June 20\, 2017\nJoin us and learn!\nFor more information or to register for this seminar\, contact: \nAMAC Foundation\n312 Teague Trail\nLady Lake\, FL 32159 \n1-888-750-2622\ninfo@amacfoundation.org

SUMMARY:Fight Back! Help Prevent Medicare Fraud
DESCRIPTION:This workshop has been cancelled\, and will likely be rescheduled over the winter months. Stay tuned for details!\n \nAs part of its continuing seminar series on topics of critical importance to seniors\, the AMAC Foundation is collaborating with Florida’s Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) to present a community outreach event designed to help “Stop Fraud in its Tracks.” The seminar is held in conjunction with SMP’s Health Care Fraud Prevention Program\, a public service initiative to enlist seniors and other community members in detecting and preventing scams\, improper payments\, and other illegal practices that are fraudulently draining an estimated $65 billion each year from the funds available for their healthcare. \nThe AMAC Foundation is a non-profit organization focused totally on the needs of America’s seniors\, and is collaborating with Florida’s Senior Medicare Patrol to help spread the word about the dramatically high cost of Medicare fraud. The seminar will focus on protecting personal information\, detecting errors occurring in the Medicare payment stream\, and detecting scams and deceptive practices\, and will explain the proper ways to report suspected health care fraud. \nThe one and a half hour program has been scheduled for Wednesday\, October 18\, 2017 at the Sumter County Library at Pinellas Plaza in The Villages\, and is open to the public. The program will begin at 10:00 am\, and will be held in Room 102 at the library\, 7375 Powell Road\, Wildwood\, FL 34785. \nJoin us for what promises to be a highly informative session aimed squarely at helping protect the health care benefits you’ve earned. It’s a big problem\, one that the FBI has estimated plagues between 3% and 10% of all Medicare billings. We’re all in this together\, so let’s join forces and fight the problem! \nThere is no fee to attend this seminar and\, by the way\, light snacks will be served! \nDeadline for registration: Friday\, October 13\, 2017 at 5:00 pm. \n  \nFor more information or to register for this seminar\, contact: \nAMAC Foundation\n312 Teague Trail\nLady Lake\, FL 32159 \n1-888-750-2622\ninfo@amacfoundation.org

SUMMARY:Life After Cable...Entertainment Alternatives!
DESCRIPTION:To Access This Event Live\, Click AmacFoundation.org/Live\nCord-cutting–the act of severing the traditional link to cable television–has grown substantially in recent years as two factors collide: the availability of a host of new options on the home entertainment market\, and growing dissatisfaction with cable companies’  price/reliability/service model. \nHere are the details: \nDate:     Wednesday\, August 9. 2017 \nTime:     10:00 am to Noon \nPlace:    Lady Lake Library\, 225 West Guava Street\, Lady Lake\, FL 32159 \nThere is no cost for this workshop\, and light refreshments will be served. \nTo register: Contact the AMAC Foundation\, 888-750-2622 or email: info@amacfoundation.org \n  \nDeadline for reservation is Wednesday\, August 2\, 2017.

SUMMARY:Sudden Death – Are You Prepared?
DESCRIPTION:Sudden Death: Are You Prepared?\nAttention: This event is comprised of three two-hour sessions.  \nHere are the dates of all three sessions: Thursdays – July 20th\, July 27th\, August 3rd – 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm \nLocation: Mission Oaks Memory Care\, Oxford \nIf you passed away tomorrow\, will your loved ones know what to do?

SUMMARY:Understanding Veterans Aid & Attendance Benefits
\nDeadline for registration is Friday\, June 16\, 2017. Light refreshments will be provided before and during the session. \nJoin us and learn!\n  \n
