A Zoom link will be sent to all registered attendees the day before the scheduled start time.\n\n\n\nThe FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) carefully tracks reported financial crimes targeting seniors\, using this information to educate the public on the vulnerabilities older Americans face in their daily lives. IC3’s recent 2020 Elder Fraud Report\, for example\, provides an extensive analysis of the types of fraud and scam situations seniors face\, including definitions of tactics used by swindlers and the defenses seniors can use to protect themselves. All-in-all\, a very informative and important document! \n\n\n\nThe IC3 Elder Fraud Report also points out a frightening trend…crime complaints reported by victims over age 60 are rising at an alarming rate. For example\, the number of complaints reported by this demographic has roughly doubled since 2015. More alarmingly\, the financial consequences of these fraud situations have more than tripled in the same period\, now representing a loss to seniors of nearly $1 billion annually! But what’s really distressing is that of all the fraud crimes reported by the public\, more than 20% target Americans over age 60. \n\n\n\nIn keeping with our mission of supporting and educating America’s seniors\, our Foundation keeps a watchful eye on the Elder Fraud situation with seminars and blog posts designed to promote public awareness of this very real and growing problem. And for women\, this complexity is heightened by several basic factors\, including the simple statistic that women tend to have a longer life expectancy than men\, often have had quite different working histories than men\, and are more often single in their retirement years. Couple that with the fact that\, for unmarried women\, Social Security represents roughly half of their total income in retirement. \n\n\n\nSo\, in addition to its complexity\, Social Security represents for women an area where considerable attention must be placed on making the best decisions for both the short and long-term. Knowing the implications of when to file\, for example\, and the consequences of this decision on spousal benefits and survivor benefits\, is something that is often overlooked in the decision-making process. Disability issues\, whether it’s you or your spouse\, are another area where careful planning is critical. \n\n\n\nThis workshop will provide an overview of the Social Security System and how it serves all Americans\, and will provide details on the issues that require close attention on the part of women as beneficiaries. Notebook materials will be provided. \nA Note on the Importance of Pre-Registering\nFor certain seminars (including the “Sudden death – Are You Prepared?” series)\, there is a considerable amount of interaction between the speakers and the participants\, so we prefer to limit the number of participants to 30. Also\, participants are provided resources in the form of a formal notebook and various reference materials\, all of which must be assembled in advance.
